Khadi or 'Khaddar' means cotton usually handspun and hand-woven fabric which is specially made in India. The raw materials may be cotton, silk, or wool, which are spun into threads on a spinning wheel called a charkha. Spinning of khadi for rural self-employment was founded and promoted by Mahatma Gandhi. Today, khadi fabrics are used for bags, apparels, aprons and caps. Khadi is a versatile fabric, cool in summers and warm in winters.
